Reminds the Public that TODAY is the LAST DAY to Register to Vote

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar, Ann Harris Bennett, reminds eligible unregistered voters that today is the voter registration deadline to cast a ballot in next month’s November 3, 2020 General Election. Applicants can text #RegisterHarris to 832-957-1957 to register to vote, or go to www.hctax.net.

“Today’s the last day for eligible residents to register to vote in time for the November 3, 2020 General Election,” Bennett said. “My office has several options for those seeking to register, or for registered voters to update their voter status before today’s midnight deadline. It’s as easy as sending a text to get your voter registration started.”

State law requires that eligible voters register 30 days prior to voting in any election.

Eligible unregistered residents may send a text with the message “RegisterHarris” to 832-957-1957 to receive a bilingual message in English and Spanish that directs a user to the Tax Office’s Voter Registration Portal. Once at the portal, voter registration applicants may fill out an online voter registration form. Upon completion of the application, the document must be printed, signed by the person applying and then mailed to the Tax Office. The state of Texas does not allow online voter registration as a physical signature is required on a voter registration application.

Completed and signed voter registration applications may also be dropped off at any Harris County Tax Office by 4:30 p.m. today. The DOWNTOWN Harris County Tax Office will be accepting voter registration applications until 6:45 p.m. this evening. The downtown Tax Office is located at 1001 Preston.
Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrars (only VDVRs) may turn in voter registration applications tomorrow, Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
