Harris County Residents Encouraged to Handle Tax Office

Business Online if COVID-19 Spread Causes Office Closures

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector & Voter Registrar Ann Harris Bennett reminds county residents that many of their Tax Office transactions may be conducted online.

“The rapidly changing situation with COVID-19 may force the closure of some or all Harris County Tax Office locations,” Bennett said. “I want the public to know that they can still conduct their Tax Office business on my office’s website. As the old Tax Office saying goes, ‘get online instead of in line’ and ensure that your affairs are handled in a timely manner.”

If all Harris County Tax Office locations are required to close, employees will continue serving the public by email and by phone. All residents with questions about property taxes, voter registration or automobile transactions may send an email to tax.office@hctx.net, or call 713-274-8000.

Property owners can pay their property taxes online at www.hctax.net. Property tax payments can also be made by telephone at 713-274-CARD (2273).

Residents seeking to renew their vehicle registration may go online at www.hctax.net to purchase their vehicle registration sticker. There are also approximately 200 vehicle registration renewal locations in Harris County. Visit www.hctax.net to view a list of partner grocery stores and participating AAA Offices.

Registered voters who need to update their voter registration information, or individuals who would like to register to vote should visit the Texas Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.state.tx.us.

Lastly, all Harris County Tax Office Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar trainings and Property Tax Workshops have been cancelled for the month of March. The public is encouraged to follow the Harris County Tax Office on social media for updates and information on Tax Office closures and cancelled office events.
