Mike Sullivan Prepares Office for 2014 Primary Election

Tomorrow, Harris County voters will cast their vote in the March 4, 2014 Primary Election and Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan is activating a 160-member call center to answer voter questions.

The Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office will be available to answer questions to voters on where to vote, their voter registration status and the photo ID cure process. “During the 2013 General Election, we took more than 9,000 calls to assist voters and election judges on numerous concerns,” said Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan. “My office is happy to do so again and welcomes anyone who has questions to call 713-274-VOTE (8683).”

Voters are required to show an acceptable form of photo ID to vote in person. “If a voter does not present a photo ID to vote, they will be permitted to vote provisionally,“ said Mr. Sullivan. “After voting provisionally, they may cure their vote by presenting a photo ID at any Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office by March 10, 2014.”

The Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office will be opening all 16 branch offices to provisional voters who need to cure their vote due to photo ID. Locations can be found at www.hctax.net.

Photo ID exemptions are available to those who do not have a photo ID and have a disability. “These individuals can apply for a permanent exemption at any Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office location,” said Mr. Sullivan. To qualify for this exemption, the voter must provide one of the following as verification:

Temporary photo ID exemptions are also available to voters who have a consistent religious objection to being photographed and voters affected by a natural disaster. Learn more about the photo ID cure process and exemptions at www.hcvoter.net.
