Registration Deadline for May 10 Uniform Election is Tomorrow
Bettencourt Continues to Encourage Residents to Join the 1.853 Million Voter Roll

HOUSTON – April 9, 2008 – Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds residents of Harris County that tomorrow, Thursday, April 10, 2008, is the deadline to register to vote in next month’s May 10, 2008 uniform election. State law requires persons who wish to vote be registered 30 days prior to the election date.

     “At this time, 102 jurisdictions have confirmed elections for May, and that means citizen taxpayers need to pay attention to these important elections,” said Bettencourt.

     Applicants may register to vote if they are:

A resident of Harris County, and
At least 17 years, 10 months of age (to vote, you must be 18), and
A U.S. citizen, and
Not declared mentally incompetent by a final judgement of a court of law, and
Not finally convicted of a felony - or have satisfied the court's requirements after a felony conviction or have received a pardon.

     To obtain a voter registration application, please visit our Tax Office Web site at www.hcvoter.net.

     Completed registration applications must be delivered to any Tax Office location by 4:45 p.m., the end of business day, or mailed with a postmark date of April 10, 2008.
