Registration Deadline for April Run-off Election is March 10th
Bettencourt Continues to Encourage Residents to Join the 1.837 Million Voter Roll

HOUSTON – March 7, 2008 - Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds residents of Harris County that Monday, March 10, 2008, is the deadline to register to vote in next month’s April 8, 2008 run-off election. State law requires persons who wish to vote be registered 30 days prior to the election date.

     “Join the nearly 580,000 voters that cast their votes in the March 4th Primary by registering to vote today,” said Bettencourt.

     Registrants will have the opportunity to vote in the following run-off races: U.S. Representative District 22 – R, Railroad Commissioner – D, State Representative District 27 – D, State Representative District 144 – R, State District Judge 174 – R, State District Judge 80 – D, District Attorney Harris County – R and Pct. 8, Pl. 1 Justice of Peace – D/R.

     Applicants may register to vote if they are:

A resident of Harris County, and
At least 17 years, 10 months of age (to vote, you must be 18), and
A U.S. citizen, and
Not declared mentally incompetent by a final judgement of a court of law, and
Not finally convicted of a felony - or have satisfied the court's requirements after a felony conviction or have received a pardon.

     To obtain a voter registration application, please visit our Tax Office Web site at www.hcvoter.net.

     Completed registration applications must be delivered to any Tax Office location by 4:45 p.m., the end of business day, or mailed with a postmark date of March 10, 2008.
