Registration Deadline for March Primary Election is February 4th
Bettencourt Encourages Residents to Join the 1.815 Million Voter Roll

HOUSTON – February 1, 2008 - Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds residents of Harris County that Monday, February 4, 2008, is the deadline to register to vote in next month’s March 4 primary election. State law requires that persons who wish to vote in the primary election be registered 30 days prior to the election date.

“It looks like Texas could be the focus of the National Presidential Primaries on March 4th, but prospective voters can’t wait until then to register to vote,” said Bettencourt. “They need to join the 1,815,421 citizens already on the voting roll by Monday, February 4th,” Bettencourt added.

Applicants may register to vote if they are:

A resident of Harris County, and
At least 17 years, 10 months of age (to vote, you must be 18), and
A U.S. citizen, and
Not declared mentally incompetent by a final judgement of a court of law, and
Not finally convicted of a felony - or have satisfied the court's requirements after a felony conviction or have received a pardon.

To obtain a voter registration application, please visit our Tax Office Web site at www.hcvoter.net.

Completed registration applications must be delivered to any Tax Office location by the end of business day at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, or mailed with a postmarked date of February 4, 2008.
