HOUSTON – October 2, 2008 – Harris County Tax Assessor - Collector Paul Bettencourt, answering numerous inquires from Hurricane Ike victims about 2008 property tax bills, wants to inform the public that a payment plan authorized by the Texas Property Tax Code will be in effect for those owners of homes with damage from Hurricane Ike. Notification of the payment plan’s availability will be included with the property tax bill when mailed in November.

     “To qualify for the installment plan for 2008 property taxes, owners of homes must submit a request to the Tax Office in writing by January 31, 2009. Some form of evidence of damage to the home by Hurricane Ike will also be needed,” said Paul Bettencourt.

     The payment plan for 2008 property tax bills will consist of four equal installments, with no interest or penalty; due in January, March, May and July of 2009.
