Harris County Tax Office Open For Election Calls From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
on Primary Day

“Get Online Instead of In Line” Before Going to the Polls

HOUSTON – March 6, 2006 – Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds registered voters to visit his office’s Web site to verify their registration status prior to tomorrow’s primary election. Registered voters also may verify their status and precinct information by calling 713-368-VOTE (8683). The office will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day to help callers.

“Registered voters in Harris County can ensure that their voting experience goes smoothly by verifying their registration status, polling location and other information at the Voter Registrar Web site at www.hcvoter.net before voting tomorrow,” said Bettencourt. “We also will be running our Election Day Call Center, with nearly 100 trained employees ready to field as many as 10,000 calls from voters, election judges and others.”

Bettencourt expects a voter turnout of 5 to 6 percent of registered voters, reflecting a relatively low level of interest in some of the races on the ballot.

“We can probably expect a turnout of between 80,000 and 120,000 voters in the primaries,” said Bettencourt. “With a relatively low turnout, it’s more important than ever for voters to get out and make their voices heard. The campaigns have had their say. Now it’s the voters’ turn.”

For more information, registered voters may call 713-368-VOTE (8683) or visit the Voter Registrar Web site at www.hcvoter.net.
