VOTER TURNOUT OF 15-17 PERCENT APPEARS SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN EXPECTED
Calls To Tax Office Support County Clerk’s Estimate
HOUSTON – Nov. 8, 2005 – Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt says an analysis of the number of telephone calls to his Voter Support Call Center shows that turnout in today’s election likely will end up between 15 percent and 17 percent.
“Based on the more than 7,000 telephone
calls we had received by 4 p.m., it appears that County Clerk Beverly
Kaufman’s estimate of 15 percent is pretty close to dead-on,” said
Bettencourt. “The attached graph, with projections, shows that morning
turnout was higher than expected, but became lower by lunchtime through
mid-afternoon. We will continue to man the phones until after the polls
close at 7 tonight.”
