Voter Registration Deadline is Aug. 25 for Sept. 24 Election
Nearly 23,000 Harris County Voters Eligible to Vote in Election

HOUSTON – Aug. 16, 2005 - Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds residents in the LaPorte Independent School District that Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, is the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Sept. 24 LaPorte ISD bond election.

“Residents of the LaPorte area should remember that they must register to vote by August 25 if they want to have a say in the bond election scheduled for next month,” said Bettencourt. “I encourage eligible residents to register to vote immediately so they can join the nearly 23,000 voters in 16 Harris County precincts eligible to vote in this election. Registration is easy, and it’s the first step in making your voice heard in your neighborhood.”

Voter Registration applications must be delivered to any Tax Office location by 4:45 p.m. on Aug. 25 or postmarked by midnight that day.

State law requires that voters be registered 30 days prior to the election in which they wish to vote.

“County residents who have moved since the last election should verify their voter registration status on our website at www.hcvoter.net or call the Tax Office at 713-368-VOTE to ensure that everything is in order prior to next week’s deadline,” added Bettencourt.
