November Election Voter Registration Roll Available Online
“Get Online Instead of In Line” Before Going to the Polls

HOUSTON - November 4, 2005 - Harris County Voter Registrar Paul Bettencourt reminds registered voters to visit the Tax Office Web site to verify their voter registration status prior to the November 8 election.

“Registered voters in Harris County can confirm their voter information by choosing to ‘Get online instead of in line’ on the Tax Office Web site at www.hcvoter.net before going to vote on November 8,” said Bettencourt. “Voters can access their personalized voting information, including their polling location.”

Harris County registered voters may verify their voter registration status and precinct information by calling 713-368-VOTE (8683). The Tax Office will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day to help registered voters.

“Harris County registered voters should not regard the November 8 election as a minor election,” said Bettencourt. “In addition to the mayoral and city council races in Houston, voters throughout the county will be casting ballots on nine state constitutional amendments ranging from the marriage amendment to changes in bail procedures. Visit the Tax Office Web site or call for help with any questions about the upcoming election.”

Bettencourt expects a voter turnout of 12.5 percent, apparently reflecting a low level of interest in the approaching election. The lackluster races contributed to a lower number of new voter registrations for this period, which in turn helped the Tax Office’s Voter Registration Department complete the Election Day voter roll in record time. A certified voter registration roll of 1,860,601 registered voters was delivered to the county clerk’s office on October 24.

For more information, registered voters may call 713-368-VOTE (8683) or visit the Tax Office Web site at www.hcvoter.net .
