Mortgage Company Property Taxpayers

The Harris County Tax Office mails out over 1,350,000 property tax bills at the beginning of each property tax season. Along with the mass mail out of property tax bills, the Tax Office also sends “information only” duplicate property tax statements to property owners whose taxes are paid by a mortgage company.

This tax season some property taxpayers may have received a property tax bill that did not indicate that the bill was a duplicate marked as a statement requested by a mortgage company. As a result, in an effort to avoid double payments, the Tax Office online property tax statements have been updated to reflect mortgage company information on each property tax bill.

Click on the link below to determine whether your property tax statement has been requested by a mortgage company.

What to do once you've completed your check:

  1. If your property tax statement research indicates that a mortgage company has requested your tax bill, please disregard the duplicate property tax statement sent to you that was not marked as “information only”.

  2. If you have already paid your property tax bill and discover by researching your online tax statement that your mortgage company also has paid your taxes, please call the Tax Office at 713-368-2000 to begin the refund process for your double payment.

  3. If your online property tax statement indicates that your statement was requested by a mortgage company and you believe this to be an error, please contact the Tax Office at 713-368-2000.

All Harris County property taxes are due on Feburary 1, 2010.
