(Houston) – Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan reflects on his successful first year in office.
“As a former City of Houston Council Member, representing the Clear Lake and Kingwood areas, I have a unique experience from passing legislation for programs and services to collecting the taxes needed to fund those very same programs,” said Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan. “It’s been an honor and privilege to continue serving the residents of Harris County in this capacity.”
The Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office has achieved much in the past year, including, collecting a record-setting $196,215,689 from the first month of the 2013 tax year, updating technology to accept credit cards for automobile transactions and starting a new help desk for military personnel.
“My office has not only been incredible stewards to tax dollars, but we’ve been exceeding expectations to the services we provide,” said Mr. Sullivan. “Our record-setting numbers in taxes collected speak for themselves and accepting credit cards for automobile transactions offers more convenience for taxpayers. In addition, I’m excited that we are now offering a Military Help Desk for military personnel and their families, which is the first of its kind in Texas.”
Over the next year, the Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office will continue building upon its successes by finding new ways to embrace technology, improve customer service and advocate for the taxpayer.
